An entry, bedroom and bathroom face different water, wear and cleaning demands. Consider pets, mobility needs, acoustics and temperature underfoot. Product lines vary within wood, laminate, resilient flooring, tile and carpet categories. A material name does not determine whether a specific product is approved for the room.
A product described as waterproof may resist water in the plank or tile while surrounding joints, edges or the subfloor remain vulnerable. Tile and grout alone do not form a complete waterproof assembly. Spills, sustained leaks and moisture from below are different conditions. Read the installation limits, warranty exclusions and required substrate preparation for the actual product.
Consider how damaged pieces can be replaced and whether matching material should be retained. Finished height can affect doors, stairs and transitions to adjacent rooms. Slip behavior, surface texture and cleaning methods influence everyday use. Samples help with appearance, but the installation and maintenance documents explain the practical limits.
Unknown older flooring and adhesive may contain asbestos. Do not remove or grind suspect material, and do not cover a wet or structurally unsound floor.
