Patio Enclosures in Charlotte: Screened, Three-Season or Glass?

By Patriot Home Service. Published: . Updated: . Published by Patriot Home Service.

Screened porch, three-season room or glass enclosure? How each patio enclosure option works for Charlotte homes, and questions to ask before choosing one.

A patio enclosure lets you use an outdoor space for more of the year and keeps insects out on summer evenings. The main options differ in how closed-in they are.

Screened enclosure

Screens keep bugs out and let air move freely. Rain can still blow in at the edges, so furniture and flooring need to handle some weather. This is the most open option.

Three-season room

Windows or removable panels close the space against wind and rain in spring and fall. It is usually not heated or cooled like the rest of the house.

Glass enclosure

More fully enclosed glass rooms feel closer to an indoor space. They bring the most light and the most planning, including how the room ties into the house.

Questions to ask

- Will the enclosure sit on an existing deck or patio, or a new one?

- Can the existing structure carry the added weight?

- Does your HOA need to approve the look?

- Will the project need a permit? Check with your local code enforcement office.
