Observe entry and patio doors for operating, drainage and weather-seal problems.
Safety first
A door must allow safe exit. Heavy slabs, glass panels and structural opening changes are not casual DIY tasks. Do not drill locks or frames without checking the manufacturer's requirements.
Checklist
Check that each door opens, closes and latches without excessive force.
Note daylight or drafts at accessible perimeter seals.
Inspect the threshold and accessible sill for visible gaps or moisture staining.
Clean sliding-door tracks and drainage paths as the manufacturer directs.
Observe cracks, loose hinges and damaged glazing from a safe position.
Confirm locks operate and keys or exit hardware are available.
Check that furniture and mats do not obstruct the swing or exit route.
For replacement, document opening dimensions, swing and exposure without removing trim.
Investigate persistent water entry or changing frame alignment rather than covering it.
